Do you have any prior knowledge about the title, author, subject, or story before I read the book?

I haven't read or heard about the book before. I learned a little when Mrs. Berry was showing the books that we could read in groups. I thought the book "The Giver" thought the book was about learning to give or something. So I thought it might be interesting to learn about giving.

What do you picture the setting to look like?

On chapter two, it tells you that Jonas and his family are in a ceremony place. In my head I pictured that the ceremony place would be at a Gym or a fancy place with fruit punch and lots of food. There would also be a banner saying congratuations to all the children who are turning nine, ten, eleven, and twelve. There also might have a place to put bikes in for the nineth group. Commitee members would be chatting to parents about the wonderful ceremony and tell them that children nine and younger can't ride bikes yet.

Are there any connections between this book and your own life?

Yes, well in a way in connects to my life. In the book there are rules you have to obey like you can’t ride a bike and so on. Well in the United States there are a bunch of rules you have to follow. You can’t drive until your 16 years old, but you can get your permit when you are 15. You can’t really have a later curfew until you’re older, or having a credit card until you’re 18 years old. In the book there are rules you have to follow when you’re a certain age.

How well have you managed your time?

We didn't fool around a lot and we always finish the work on time. No one turned in their homework late. No one in our group didn’t finish or do their homework. We are always at the same pace while reading on our own. We’re always laughing when we discuss about our homework and what we have read about.

Who or what has been helpful to you? Hurtful? How?

Actually, everyone in my group have been helpful to me. No one really did anything mean or said something bad. We helped each other if we didn't understand or didn't know what the homework was. We reminded each other on assignments if we forgot. Amanda, Jennifer and Alexandra have been very helpful to me when I didn't understand anything or if I needed help on the assignment.

Angela,

You have the correct format for literature responses. You did very well on your responses. Keep up the good detail in your answers. Mrs. Berry
